Frame Material and Size Comparison
Frame Material
The Modern Shade gazebo features a premium cedar wood frame. This wood is FSC-certified, meaning it comes from ethically sourced forests. The natural cedar offers a classic aesthetic and robust strength. In contrast, the UDPATIO model uses a metal frame with a thickened anti-rust and anti-corrosion coating. This metal construction is designed to resist moisture, rain, and sun erosion without rusting. While wood provides a traditional look, the coated metal frame ensures long-term durability against deformation and bending. You should choose the cedar if you prefer natural materials, or the metal frame for low-maintenance resistance to the elements.
Size and Footprint
Size matters for your outdoor space. The Modern Shade option measures 12 feet by 16 feet, providing a generous 192 square feet of covered area. Its width is 142 inches and length is 189 inches. The UDPATIO gazebo is slightly smaller at 12 feet by 14 feet, offering 168 square feet. Its width is 144 inches and length is 168 inches. The Modern Shade model is 21 inches longer, which allows for more flexible furniture arrangements. If you need extra space for larger gatherings or multiple seating areas, the larger footprint of the Modern Shade gazebo is the better choice for your backyard.
Roof Style
Both gazebos utilize a double-tier galvanized steel roof. This design promotes superior ventilation and airflow, helping to keep the area underneath cooler. The double-layered structure also enhances stability under strong wind conditions. Modern Shade specifies that its rust-resistant surface blocks up to 90% of UV rays. UDPATIO claims its roof joints block 99% of harmful ultraviolet rays. Both roofs are certified for fire resistance and designed to withstand heavy snow and rain. The double-tier style on both models ensures that water runs off efficiently while protecting you from direct sunlight during the hottest parts of the day.
Included Features
Feature sets differ between the two models. The Modern Shade gazebo includes a ceiling hook for hanging lighting or decorations and dedicated mosquito net rods. These rods allow for the easy installation and removal of nets or curtains. The UDPATIO model features a dual-track sidewall system that supports layered privacy curtains and screens. It also has built-in reinforced hooks for hanging fans or heaters. The UDPATIO sidewalls offer zippered enclosures for full protection or open views. If you prioritize insect protection with dedicated rods, choose Modern Shade. If you want versatile wall enclosures for privacy and weather, UDPATIO is superior.
Wind Resistance
Stability in high winds is critical for permanent structures. The Modern Shade gazebo is engineered with four heavy-duty wooden posts and expansion bolts for secure anchoring. It has a specific wind rating of 83 mph, allowing it to withstand harsh hurricane seasons. The UDPATIO product description highlights its sturdy structure and double galvanized steel roof for stability under strong winds, but it does not list a specific mph rating. The explicit 83 mph rating on the Modern Shade model provides a clear benchmark for extreme weather performance that the UDPATIO data does not specify.
Choose the best gazebo for you
Need maximum floor space for large groups
The Modern Shade model offers a 12' x 16' footprint, providing 192 square feet of coverage. This larger area comfortably accommodates 5 to 15 people. You get extra room for socializing or setting up multiple seating zones. The UDPATIO option measures 12' x 14', which is smaller and better suited for medium-sized gatherings.
Prioritize wind resistance and secure anchoring
This gazebo is engineered with a wind rating of 83 mph. It uses heavy-duty wooden posts secured with expansion bolts for firm anchoring on concrete or decking. The UDPATIO listing mentions stability in strong winds but does not provide a specific wind speed rating, making the Modern Shade the more verifiable choice for harsh weather.
Prefer a classic cedar wood aesthetic
The frame is crafted from FSC-certified premium cedar wood, offering a natural look and robust strength. It includes rust-free black stainless steel hardware and galvanized brackets. The UDPATIO model features a frame with an anti-rust coating but does not specify wood material, making the Modern Shade the clear choice for a traditional wooden structure.
Want versatile sidewall and curtain options
The UDPATIO gazebo includes a dual-track sidewall system. This supports layered privacy curtains and screens, allowing you to balance airflow with protection from sun and rain. It features built-in reinforced hooks for hanging items and zippered enclosures. The Modern Shade listing only mentions mosquito net rods without describing a comprehensive sidewall system.
